Postgraduate Researcher at the Centre for Experimental Medicine (CEM), QUB. Member of the Microbiology Society (MS), Ulster Immunology Group (UIG), British Society of Immunology (BSI). Primerdesign Gold Studentship Recipient, 2018.
I am a 3rd year PhD student investigating the cause of severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) disease in infants.
I am a skilled science communicator, having delivered oral / poster presentations at the Microbiology Society Conference (2018) and the British Association for Lung Research (BALR) conference (2017). At the CEM 2nd Year Postgraduate Symposium, I was awarded the prize for best talk (2018). I'm a keen science writer, managing my own science blog in my spare time.
I was one of ten postgraduate students selected to attend a masterclass discussion with Nobel laureate and president of the Royal Society; Prof Venkitraman Ramakrishnan (2018).
I helped establish a presentation skills commitee in my lab, with the aim of improving the presentation and interview skills of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
I've demonstrated for several undergraduate courses focused mainly on microbiology. I've taught specialised lab techniques to undergraduate and postgraduate students within my own lab, and continue to support them in their projects.
I have a particular interest in improving organisation, efficiency and collaboration within my lab. I recently implemented online software and a mobile app to improve the accuracy / accessibility of our storage records, and to track / distribute general lab chores fairly.
